Senior Dogs

Older dogs still like to smell fresh and clean. Bring in your senior dog for a gentle and calm grooming experience.

As your dog gets older, many changes start to happen for them. They may not have the energy they once had before and eating habits may change. Arthritis or hip problems may start to set in as their bodies show signs of aging. Senior dogs are awesome companions as you remember all the memories you’ve made with your dog over the years. Each breed of dog has a different life expectancy.

Grooming becomes more challenging due to the changes your dog is experiencing. In order for a groomer to safely and efficiently groom your dog, they will need to have the ability to stand for a period of time. Grooming can be a stressful event for your dog. There are many sounds and smells that excite a dog while at the grooming shop. Our goal is to provide a safe and calm environment for your dog, while providing the grooming they need. If we notice your dog is showing signs of pain or exhaustion during the grooming process, we give them a break to rest, or another groomer will step in to help support them during the grooming process. We ask clients to be fair with us, and a few things they should be aware of are:

  • Owners will sign a Senior Pet Form. This gives us guidance on medical care in the event of any issues.
  • Owners will be required to pick up their dog immediately once their dog is ready to go.
  • If your dog has arthritis or hip problems and requires an additional staff member to help support them during the grooming process, an extra charge will apply.

We love older dogs. Groomers develop bonds with dogs that they see on a regular basis. It can be very sad when a dog is reaching the later years of their lives because we know they won’t be around forever. Some grooming shops have started to refuse service to older dogs due to the risks involved as a dog ages. Know that we are here to groom your dog as they approach the end of their lives. Let’s work together to make sure their last grooming experiences are as good as their first ones.
